Therefore in view of this, we have to develop the mechanism to preserve the digital resources in new media so that the information resources cannot be destroyed and may be utilized in future also. Since these technologies are changing very fast which are replacing the old media and storage devices, there is a need to preserve the born digital or digitized information resources what we are having for the future generation or for posterity. Accordingly enormous information is being produced in digital forms or digitized information. Many publishers have started producing electronic resources along with the printed documents. As the modern technologies are coming up, there is a great demand of new information products and services. The rapid technological development in few decades back particularly in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), multimedia, digital technologies and emergence of Internet/ World Wide Web (The traditional libraries have been adopting the ICTs and digital technologies for their routine housekeeping operations and computer based library & information services to its end users. The LIS professionals who are working in many libraries have a great responsibility to conserve and preserve these resources to serve the society for their information needs and also to preserve carefully for the future generations or posterity. The advent of computers and emerging ICTs have given us an opportunity to exploit theses technologies to collect, organise, preserve, retrieve and disseminate the information available in the form of manuscripts and rare documents. The Oriental / Indian manuscripts are the important sources of collection of written documents, texts and scripts. Gradually people started using various medium like brick bark, palm leaves, bhuja patras, cloths, woods, handmade papers etc to write and record the ancient knowledge available in the areas of religious literature on Vedas, Puranas and many ancient Sanskrit texts, natural. Since time immemorial, the traditions, customs art & culture have been orally transferred from one generation to other. In addition, the study also analyses the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the manuscripts preservation policy of these North-Eastern states by the British Library. The basic purpose of the study is to highlight about the serious concern of the preservation of these heritages as it can be noticed that they are at extinct stage as the future generation would heard only in form of stories. The analysis highlights that the state such as Mizoram, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh had adopted projects and have digitized the manuscripts as per their convenience and timeframe concern. The present study primarily highlights the conservation and archival policies adopted by the British Library to digitize the ancient manuscripts of the North-Eastern states of India. But for the past two decades or so, preserving the endangered manuscripts through digitization has become the prime concern of governments so that such manuscripts can be kept safely for future generations as manuscripts are considered to be an important asset to know our culture and tradition better. The preservation and conservation of traditional manuscripts is an age old practice.
